The Edge is a marvel of architecture, engineering and technology with panoramic views of the city we all love as well as the highest open observation deck in the Western Hemisphere, But that’s just the beginning. There is much more to do once you climb to 304.8 meters.
What is The Edge?
The Edge is an outdoor observation deck located in the 30 Hudson Yards building and designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox. The official opening of the building took place on March 15, 2019, while the observatory opened a year later. The building is part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project, a plan to redevelop the Hudson Yards area. The Edge is located in Midtown Manhattan’s Hudson Yards.
How tall is the 30 Hudson Yards building?
The building is 387 meters high and has 103 floors, while The Edge observatory is located at 340 meters and on the 100th floor. 30 Hudson Yards is the sixth tallest building in New York. It offers new views of the skyline south and east of Manhattan, the surrounding boroughs and New Jersey. The journey to the top takes just 52 seconds!
Opening hours of The Edge
The observatory operates under normal weather conditions. However, during adverse or extreme weather conditions, the observatory may close. If the Edge or a portion of the Edge is closed due to severe weather, Experience Ambassadors will be available to provide assistance and information. Hours of operation remain the same on all days: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
The Edge observatory
One of the many advantages of The Edge is that it is located on the west side of Manhattan and allows you to see the entire skyline from one place. See all the way from the edge of Central Park to the Statue of Liberty and beyond.
Once you step out of the interior of the building you will find yourself floating 340 meters above the ground in an outdoor space of 750 square meters.
Feel the thrill of leaning over the edge with the bustling city below. The outer deck is made of frameless glass surfaces with a bold outward slope.
The most daring stand on the glass floor and see the city streets below your feet.
Get an even higher perspective by climbing the exterior stairs. Look over the top of the glass panels and over the edge of the deck. Enjoy the view and hang out in the sky with your friends and family.
At the easternmost point (The Eastern Point), there is room for only one person, surrounded by glass, air and sky. A unique photo opportunity!
Enjoy your champagne or a cocktail in the sky with light food.
City Climb
City Climb, the world’s highest outdoor building climb and a unique aerial adventure experience. Located atop The Edge, the tallest outdoor deck in the Western Hemisphere, City Climb challenges guests to scale the exterior of a 387m skyscraper, then lean down from the skyscraper’s exterior platform for the ultimate view of New York City.
Led by trained guides, small groups traverse a series of outdoor platforms and staircases along the perimeter crown of the skyscraper. State-of-the-art trolley and cable systems secure drivers and visitors to steel rails throughout the journey.
Unobstructed on the outer perimeter of the City Climb, at various points during the experience, guests can lean over the open edges with no obstacle other than the wind and enjoy stunning views of New York City.
Offering views of the skyline like never before, the City Climb is an experience visitors will remember for the rest of their lives.
The climbing guides will record the entire experience as well as take photos along the way. As part of the ticket, all guests will receive a video of their journey on the climb above the city. Still photos will be available for purchase as part of a pre-visit or post-climb package.
