Washington Square Park Christmas Tree in  is another longstanding New York tradition, dating back to 1924. Hosted by the Washington Square Association, this year’s lighting ceremony, scheduled for XXXXXXX, will include the lighting of a tree with 45 feet high located a few feet from the historic Arch at the beginning of Fifth Avenue. Enjoy carols and a visit to Santa Claus. The tree will be lit during the holidays daily from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.

In 2024, the hundredth anniversary of the lighting of the Washington Square Park Christmas Tree will take place. In 1924, after the first Christmas tree lighting ceremony, the tree was planted in the park. For now, there is a new tree cut down every year for the purpose of appearing under the Arch for the holidays. The tree traditionally arrives from Vermont.
